About the Exhibit

This exhibit would be impossible were it not for the inspiration of Cuban artist Carlos Estévez, who created these small works especially for the Cuban Art Space. Many of them are remarkably similar to large works he has done in the past, yet they seem worlds apart. Their small size lends an air of enchantment to them, like delicate jewels. Carlos has said that "in a way these drawings constitute small examples of the garden of my work," which explains his choice of the Latin word for a "small wood" or garden to name the exhibit.

We owe a special debt to Oliver Hirsch, who taught us to care for these delicate works on paper, and provided the intellectual and aesthetic savvy to present them in the way they merit. And many thanks to Ralph Casado and Julio Mendoza for helping to hang the exhibit.
